Life These Days

To curious friends and any other interested parties:

I have been living in Nashville for about 6 months now, loving it for about 5 months, and feeling at home here for about 6 weeks (the first month was filled more with trepidation and fear and confusion and the small beginnings of love).

My good friend Yousef suggested to me that some people may be interested in hearing how life and music are going out here. (If you aren’t interested and don’t like this post or future ones, please direct all blame to him. If you like this post or future ones please direct all well wishes to me.)

Life is good, and I genuinely have no complaints. I am learning. The songs are coming slowly, but I think they’re getting better and better. I am still working on being inspired and not intimidated by all of the talent that surrounds me. I now have a favorite dog park, hot dog stand, and expensive window-shopping only boutique. Still on the agenda is finding my favorite sunset spot and a cool place to write other than my room (which my mom says is still decorated more like a dorm room than a young adult’s house). I now have four floppy hats that I am mostly still too nervous to wear out in public. I’ve been playing some open mics, co-writing and practicing piano and guitar (none of them enough). Most of all so far, I’ve been working on getting to know myself a lot better. Time alone in a new city will do that to you. I’ve also been making friends, which can be really hard but is actually the coolest.

I’m working hard to make music that people will enjoy and be able to get something out of. I’d love YOUR love and support and ideas and comments and questions and concerns and general life thoughts.

If you don’t mind, I’m going to start involving y’all in this journey a lot more by posting updates and asking opinions and sharing with you what makes this city and industry so unique and scary and cool.

LOL (Lots of Love)
